Job Overview

The Coding Specialist III will be responsible for coding retrospective outpatient accounts using ICD-10 CM and CPT, ensuring compliance with official guidelines. The role involves accurate data abstraction, review of accounts, and maintaining coding quality and productivity standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• At least 3 years of acute hospital-based coding experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Certifications such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, COC, CPC, CPC-H, or CIRCC

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or related field
• Experience in Cancer Center and Infusion Services coding
• Remote work experience preferred

Key Responsibilities

• Code outpatient accounts accurately using ICD-10 CM and CPT
• Identify appropriate diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers to support medical necessity
• Abstract required data elements and review accounts in denial queues
• Determine when physician queries are necessary and validate documentation
• Maintain coding quality and productivity standards
• Mentor and train staff as needed
• Stay updated on coding guidelines and practices
