Job summary

Scripps Health is hiring a full-time Laboratory Phlebotomy Technician to support the Central San Diego County labs and nearby locations, including Carlsbad, Encinitas, and Oceanside. You will rotate across sites, perform phlebotomy duties, and ensure sample integrity with timely transport and accurate labeling.

Expect varied shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with rotating Saturdays and holiday coverage as needed.

Qualifications

Good critical thinking and analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient with medical terminology and computer systems.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II.
Valid CDPH certificate.
American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Professionals.

Responsibilities

Respond to life critical situations such as Trauma, Stroke Codes, Code Sepsis or Code Blues.
Ensure samples are collected following time-sensitive priorities (STAT, Timed and routine).
Observe aseptic technique and isolation procedures whenever indicated.
Clarify unclear orders and document ABN necessity when needed.
Identify patients prior to sample collection and label samples accurately.
Perform phlebotomy via venipuncture or capillary puncture per age-appropriate techniques.
Preserve sample integrity by timely delivery to the lab.
Process specimens following handling instructions and transport/storage requirements.
Follow safety regulations for packaging specimens for transport.
Support pre-analytic and analytic steps under supervision, and use EMR/LIS systems.
