Overview

Family Practice Associates was founded by Dr. Jeffrey Foxx in 1983 and has grown to become one of the largest family practice groups in Central Kentucky. FPA offers family-centered care from birth to later years, with over 20 primary providers including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and a marriage and family therapist. Responsibilities

The Point of Care Medical Laboratory Assistant performs phlebotomy and point of care testing as part of daily laboratory operations, under the supervision of the laboratory manager. Key duties include:

• Collecting viable and appropriate specimens from patients
• Maintaining documentation for specimen collection and tracking
• Sending specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house

Inventory Management

• Maintaining adequate supplies in the laboratory
• Ensuring supplies are viable before use
• Rotating stock to use the oldest materials first

Safety Procedures

• Following safety guidelines outlined in the manual
• Proper disposal of medical waste
• Maintaining a safe, clean environment in waiting areas, restrooms, phlebotomy, and laboratory spaces

Point of Care Testing

The assistant performs authorized point of care tests, adhering to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, testing, and record-keeping. Responsibilities include:

• Documenting patient test results and proficiency testing
• Maintaining quality control records and calibrations
• Following corrective procedures for test deviations
• Identifying and addressing problems affecting test performance

Additional Tasks

• Performing other duties assigned by the laboratory manager

Minimum Requirements

• Phlebotomy skills and experience
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures
• Fine motor skills for operating equipment and computers
• Electronic health records experience (preferred)
• Ability to stand most of the day, stretch, and lift less than 10 pounds
• Strong communication, problem-solving, judgment, and initiative
• Ability to prioritize and develop workflow
• Willingness to perform additional tasks as needed

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 12:00 pm until close, with occasional Saturdays as needed.
