Responsibilities
- Demonstrate high level of skill in HIS functions for patient registrations; collect accurate patient information, review and enter physician orders into the computer, complete patient forms and identifications.
- Perform patient demographic inquiries to verify information, assuring the accuracy of patient identification using two identifiers.
- Demonstrate knowledge of insurance guidelines; verify insurance via online eligibility system and update as needed.
- Complete forms as required, use appropriate registration codes, and comply with registration, coding, and billing policies.
- Utilize the order entry system for error resolution, troubleshooting, and work order placement.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Laboratory Information System (LIS) functions; accurately place orders, look up test codes, collection info, physician demographics, faxIQ, etc.
- Monitor reports to track specimens and results, and manage HIS-LIS interactions, reporting issues as necessary.
- Perform daily operational tasks, including logging information and tracking 'orders not processed'.
- Follow protocols for venous or capillary phlebotomy, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification.
- Assist in urine drug screen and legal alcohol collections following established procedures.
- Interact effectively with healthcare providers and patients, answer phones professionally, and stay current with departmental protocols.
- Manage supplies, organize specimens, and maintain documentation for operational monitoring.
- Handle specimen processing, including sending samples for testing, managing reference lab reports, and ensuring proper labeling and identification.
- Participate in quality management and communicate with IT support for system issues.
- Operate hospital vehicles following safety regulations and lead in phlebotomy competency validation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or higher
- Two years of Phlebotomy experience
- Completion of Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Training Program
- Full registration training completed within 90 days of hire
- Knowledge of coding, math, insurance benefits, and MS Office
- Preferred: Medical terminology, lab info systems experience, healthcare setting experience
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License
- Act 33, 34, 73 FBI Clearances with renewal
Work Details
- Full-time, rotating shifts, travel between locations possible
