Job summary

Northfield Hospital + Clinics is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood specimens from neonates to geriatrics, verify patient identification, label samples, and accession them for processing in a busy clinical laboratory environment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, completion of an accredited phlebotomy program, and English proficiency; enrollment in NH+C RQI for BLS within 90 days is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program for BLS certification and complete within 90 days of enrollment.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
• Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy program preferred.
• Previous experience or education in a health-related field preferred.
• Good interpersonal communication skills preferred.
• Ability to receive and carry out directions preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens and ensure proper patient identification, labeling, and handling of specimens.
• Accessions and processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing.
• Perform waived and select moderate complexity laboratory tests under supervision.
• Report patient test results according to established policies.
• Conduct quality control procedures and routine instrument performance checks.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments.
• Complete clerical tasks related to laboratory operations (data entry, filing, documentation).
• Provide technical guidance and workflow oversight to phlebotomists.
• Adhere to Universal Precautions and infection control practices.
