Job summary

North Shore Medical Center is seeking a lab assistant responsible for the collection and processing of biological specimens for clinical laboratory testing. The role supports patient care under physician directed oversight and RN supervision, with emphasis on accuracy and timely processing.

Applicants should be high school graduates with strong data entry, multitasking, and communication skills. Phlebotomy certification is preferred, and BLS must be obtained within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read and understand written data and medical terminology.
• Must possess good verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with all age groups.
• Must demonstrate the ability to perform all specimen processing functionalities.
• Data entry skills are required.
• Order and report distribution skills are essential.
• Professional customer service skills and a positive attitude are required.
• Must display ability to learn and retain policy, procedure, and computer training.

Responsibilities

• Lab assistants are responsible for all aspects of collection and processing of biological specimens for clinical laboratory testing while maintaining the Mission and Values of the Gateway Regional Medical Center.
• Assists with maintaining laboratory operations and performs other tasks as necessary to ensure continuity of patient care.
