Job summary

Actalent in Draper, UT is seeking a Phlebotomist I to perform venipunctures, collect and process specimens, and maintain accurate patient records in a fast-paced clinical setting.

This contract role supports patient care from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., handling 25 patients daily, with OSHA/DEP compliance and on-site responsibilities. Certification and experience in phlebotomy are required, with adherence to strict procedures and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• 1 to 2 years of phlebotomy experience working with diverse patient populations, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
• Proficiency in performing blood draws and venipunctures using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Demonstrated experience in specimen collection, labeling, and processing according to established procedures.
• Ability to collect, handle, and store various specimen types, including blood, urine, and fecal samples.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients and colleagues.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks.
• High school diploma or GED.
• 0 to 2 years of overall related experience in a clinical or laboratory environment.
• Ability to accurately match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes and verify patient and test information.
• Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA and DEP regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and blood draws safely and accurately.
• Collect and store blood and specimens per procedures.
• Explain procedures clearly to patients for understanding and comfort.
• Match requisition forms to tubes and verify information.
• Label, centrifuge, and process specimens as required by test orders.
• Ensure 100% accuracy before processing requisitions or labels.
• Package specimens for transport per guidelines.
• Store specimens at required temperatures and in proper containers.
• Follow protocols to ensure proper handling and transport.
• Update patient information accurately in the system.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as needed.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and safety standards.
• Attend annual department trainings and maintain current knowledge.
• Answer calls, provide information, and read results as needed.
• Assist with troubleshooting workflow issues and improve efficiency.
