Phlebotomist

Location: 5009 Fallston Rd, Lawndale, NC 28090

Assignment Duration: 3 Months

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Job Type: Full-Time | Temporary-to-Permanent Optional

Position Overview

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing blood draws and specimen collection while ensuring accurate labeling, processing, storage, and transportation of specimens. This role requires strong attention to detail, patient-focused communication, and the ability to work independently in a physician office environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect and store blood and other specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients.
  • Verify physician orders and match laboratory requisitions with specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Verify test requisitions and computer-generated labels for accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transportation while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Store specimens at the required temperature and in the appropriate collection containers/tubes.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination activities as required.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results information as appropriate.
  • Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and established laboratory procedures.
  • Attend required annual department training.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, workflow recommendations, and other assigned duties.
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Work independently in a doctor's office setting.
  • Perform approximately 15-20 blood draws per day.
  • Work with patients of all ages.
  • Position requires standing for most of the workday.
  • 2 weeks of initial training: first week focused on computer systems, followed by hands-on training.
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of specimen collection, labeling, processing, and handling.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong patient communication and interpersonal skills.
Additional Requirement
  • Hepatitis B vaccination required.
