Job Summary
Under the direction of phlebotomy management, performs diverse support functions including phlebotomy to ensure accurate test results and a quick turnaround time. Positions supporting Patient Service Centers and client offices are required to provide phlebotomy services to these locations as determined by department needs and may be assigned to different locations and/or different schedules without a 30-day notice.

Essential Functions
- Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures to obtain adequate samples from patients. Responsible for proper patient identification, correct specimen labeling, and necessary documentation. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to evaluate and select proper collection methods for age-specific patients.
- Supports laboratory activities related to testing (phlebotomy, specimen collection, computer order entry, and specimen processing) to ensure accurate result reporting and quick turnaround time.
- Performs processing functions to support laboratory services related to testing, including verification, accessioning, aliquoting, processing and batching send-out testing, adding/cancelling tests, distributing, storing, and disposing of specimens.
- Adheres to compliance policies related to job duties, including presenting Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) of non-coverage prior to outpatient services.
- Performs observational competency assessments of all support staff under the guidance of phlebotomy leadership using established criteria.
- Maintains department equipment and inventory to ensure proper supplies are available.

- Q.I./process improvements, data collection, QC documentation, and CAP surveys as applicable
- Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO)
- Friend-at-Work program and assists in training new hires as applicable/assigned
- Staff and committee meetings as assigned
Uses resources efficiently, completing tasks accurately and timely, and being mindful of laboratory funds and supplies.Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Preferred Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Course and externship
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program required
- 6 months relevant experience preferred, depending on assignment
- Driver's License (Michigan outpatient & nursing home positions only) required upon hire
- CRT-Phlebotomy Technician (NHA) preferred upon hire
Physical Demands
- Seldom to frequently lifting and carrying weights from 5 lbs up to 50 lbs in various postures and movements
- Frequently walking, standing, and performing forward bends and trunk rotations
- Occasionally climbing stairs, crawling, kneeling, reaching, handling, and applying forceful grip or pinch
- Frequently using finger/hand dexterity
