Job description

We're excited to announce a significant increase in the pay rate for this job opening!

Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital, established in 1955, is a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations, 1,101 beds, and numerous residency programs. It is the clinical partner of Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of phlebotomy management, performs diverse support functions including phlebotomy to ensure accurate test results and quick turnaround times. Supports Patient Service Centers and client offices, providing phlebotomy services as needed, possibly at different locations and schedules without prior notice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures, ensuring proper patient identification, specimen labeling, and documentation. Selects appropriate collection methods based on patient age.
  2. Supports laboratory testing activities, including specimen collection, computer order entry, and processing to ensure accurate results and timely reporting.
  3. Performs processing functions such as verification, accessioning, aliquoting, batching, and specimen storage/disposal.
  4. Adheres to compliance policies, including presenting ABN of non-coverage prior to outpatient services.
  5. Observes and evaluates support staff competency under leadership guidance.
  6. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.
  7. Works independently and efficiently.
  8. Participates in patient-centered care, quality improvement, staff training, and organizational activities.
  9. Uses resources efficiently, avoiding waste and managing costs.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

To succeed, candidates must meet the following:

A. Education / Training:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred; 50 blood draws in previous roles can substitute.
B. Work Experience:
  • Preferred 6 months of experience, depending on assignment.
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
  • Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification preferred.
D. Other Qualifications:
  • Reliable transportation, valid Michigan Driver's License, and a good driving record are required for support roles at Patient Service Centers.
