Job Summary

The Phlebotomist Float, under the direction of the area supervisor, performs daily phlebotomy activities at the Patient Service Center (PSC) or In-office Phlebotomy (IOP), accurately and on time. This role involves assisting with coverage of client locations as needed, requiring travel. The individual interacts professionally with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel, performing specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.

Essential Functions

1. Travel to client assignments within a designated region with short notice.
2. Greet customers courteously and treat all customers respectfully.
3. Ensure all specimens are collected accurately and timely.
4. Explain collection procedures clearly to patients, reducing anxiety and providing a calm environment.
5. Dispose of biohazardous materials and sharps according to laws and policies.
6. Complete requisitions accurately and enter patient, specimen, insurance, and billing information into the computer system.
7. Research test/client information using lab systems.
8. Match requisition forms to specimens, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
9. Package and store specimens properly for transport, maintaining specimen integrity.
10. Maintain records, logs, and compile monthly statistics and data.
11. Perform clerical duties such as filing, faxing, mailing, and electronic data entry.
12. Approve time and submit expense and travel logs timely.
13. Adhere to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies, maintaining a neat appearance.
14. Maintain professional behavior, communicate effectively, and contribute to a positive work environment.
15. Ensure facilities are clean and report repairs as needed.
16. Assist with inventory counts and report shortages.
17. Use proper PPE and follow safety protocols, including confidentiality and compliance policies.
