Job summary

Advocate Health in Wisconsin seeks a part-time phlebotomist to support lab operations at the WI ACL Laboratories – AMG Waukesha County Summit site. You will verify patient identity, perform venipuncture, collect specimens, and assist with specimen processing and data entry, while upholding quality and safety standards.

The role requires basic computer skills, strong communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced setting with occasional scheduling across mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge and experience in phlebotomy or related laboratory function.
• Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
• Keyboarding and typing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good listening skills.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.

Responsibilities

• Verifies positive patient identification and assesses reactions during specimen procurement.
• Performs venipuncture and collects specimens from newborns to adults according to protocol.
• Ensures proper labeling and suitable specimens for testing; resolves problems.
• Performs limited testing under CLIA guidelines according to policy.
• Answers and screens calls; assists with inventory and billing support.
• Receives, sorts, packages, and tracks specimens; procures additional requests as needed.
• Orders and verifies test requests; documents data for QA; runs quality controls.
• Enters laboratory results into the computer system.
• Trains employees and students in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
• Provides care appropriate to age-specific patient needs per departmental standards.
