Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist to obtain blood specimens via venipuncture, capillary and heel sticks, and to collect nasal/nasopharyngeal specimens. The role includes patient registration in Epic, entering tests into the LIS, and coordinating with families and staff.

A basic competency in MS Office and strong communication are essential. The position is full-time, on-site, with day shift hours.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate of Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy program preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred.
1 year phlebotomy experience preferred; required if not MA/Phlebotomy program.

Responsibilities

Identifies patient and collects blood specimens via venipuncture, finger stick, and heel stick.
Receives and processes laboratory specimens; maintains specimen integrity for transport.
Registers patients in Epic and enters tests into the LIS as ordered.
Collects non-blood specimens (NP and throat) following proper procedures.
Performs iontophoresis for sweat collection.
Performs basic testing procedures and monitors QC; administers Glucola for GTT.
Maintains a neat, stocked work area and supplies.
Collects blood cultures using proper technique to avoid contamination.
Educates and trains new staff on phlebotomy procedures.
Communicates with patients, families, and lab staff regarding requirements and requests.
Performs other duties as required.
