Job summary

The successful candidate will have a valid phlebotomy certification, at least 6 months of venipuncture experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. This contract position offers benefits and potential for permanent placement.

Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• High School Diploma or GED; Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explains the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrates phlebotomy techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
• Fully understands physicians' orders and matches requisitions to specimens.
• Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test orders.
• Checks test requisitions to ensure accuracy.
• Packages specimens for transport and stores samples at required temperatures.
• Follows protocols to maintain specimen integrity for transport.
• Adheres to OSHA and DEP regulations and attends annual trainings.
• Responds to inquiries by reading laboratory results aloud as needed.
