Qualifications

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state where employed as required.
• Minimum of 5 years performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate technique with straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand physicians' orders and coordinate with lab staff.
• Match requisitions to specimens, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze as required.
• Package specimens for transport and store according to required temperatures.
• Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual trainings.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.
