The position is a contract role with potential for permanent placement, located in Latham, NY, with a schedule of Monday–Friday 7:30am–4:00pm and alternating Saturdays 7:00am–1:00pm. The role involves performing venipuncture and related duties in a fast-paced lab setting, collecting and labeling specimens, and maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• High school diploma or GED; valid phlebotomy certification as required by state.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture and other specimen collection as required.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and butterfly needles; follow physicians' orders and match requisition forms to tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer label against script for 100% accuracy; package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures and label appropriately for transport to maintain integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend annual trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results as needed.
