Job summary

Qualifications

• Must have a High School diploma or GED. Completion of an approved phlebotomy training course, or 6 months phlebotomy experience in hospital or patient care setting.

Responsibilities

• Collects and/or processes patient blood via venipuncture and capillary puncture.
• Uses vacutainer tubes, butterflies, syringes, and needles for blood draws; employs micro lancets/capillary pipettes for heel sticks.
• Performs Positive Patient identification by verifying name and DOB against orders and records it.
• Determines proper container type and delivers specimens to the lab promptly.
• Provides phone support for patient care areas in a polite and supportive manner.
• Maintains competency with hospital and lab information systems as needed.
• Trains new teammates and students in department processes.
• Wears PPE as appropriate when handling specimens.
• Participates in staff meetings and improvement projects.
• Adheres to regulations and standard operating procedures.
• Completes required system, facility and department trainings.
