You will perform blood draws across multiple locations, ensure proper specimen handling, and communicate results and procedures to patients while adhering to OSHA/DEP regulations.

Qualifications

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum 6 months venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital.
• Minimum 2 years of work experience; valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens according to procedures.
• Collect and store specimens correctly, including urine or fecal samples as required.
• Explain venipuncture procedures to patients in a courteous manner.
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight or butterfly needles.
• Follow physicians' orders and match requisitions to tubes.
• Package and transport specimens per protocol and maintain labeling accuracy.
• Record maintenance data and assist with decontamination duties.
• Travel between float locations using a personal vehicle.

Location: New Britain, CT and surrounding area (float position covering Enfield, CT to Waterbury, CT) | Schedule: Full-time, on-site, contract role projected for 3 months with potential for permanent placement; hours 6AM to 6PM M-F with rotating Saturdays (every 3rd or 4th Saturday); start/end time depends on assigned location

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its clinical team on a contract basis, with strong potential to convert to a permanent role. This float position supports multiple locations across the region and plays a key role in ensuring accurate specimen collection, patient care, and lab workflow efficiency.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples according to established procedures
• Collect and store specimens properly, including urine or fecal samples as required
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions against scripts for accuracy
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Package and store specimens at required temperatures, ensuring proper labeling and protocol compliance for transport integrity
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and communicate laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Record maintenance data, perform decontamination duties, and update patient information
• Troubleshoot issues and make recommendations to improve workflow
• Travel between assigned float locations using a personal vehicle

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states)
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum of 2 years of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Reliable transportation, as this is a float position covering multiple locations
