Software Placement Group is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract position in Woodbridge, VA with strong conversion potential to a permanent role. The role supports front-line patient care through accurate specimen collection and lab workflow assistance.

Qualifications

  • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states.
  • Minimum 6 months' venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples as required.
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.
  • Update patient information accurately.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients.
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Follow physicians' orders and match requisition forms to tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test order.
  • Ensure accuracy of test requisitions and labels against scripts.
  • Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend trainings.

Location: Woodbridge, VA | Schedule: Full-time, contract (8:00am-4:30pm, M-F and every other Saturday 7am-11am) | Compensation: Benefits available

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract role with strong potential to convert to a permanent position. This is an important front-line role supporting patient care through accurate specimen collection and lab workflow support.

What you'll do
  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge samples as required
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
  • Update patient information accurately
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
  • Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Package specimens for transport
  • Store specimens at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend annual department trainings
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to respond to inquiries
  • Troubleshoot issues, assist with training, and make workflow recommendations
Required qualifications
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
