Job summary

Unknown employer is seeking a Phlebotomist to join its clinical laboratory team on a contract basis with potential for permanent placement. Location is Spotsylvania, VA, with a full-time, on-site schedule from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities include blood draws, specimen labeling, data recording, and handling, as well as ensuring OSHA and DEP compliance. Candidates must have a phlebotomy certification and at least 6 months venipuncture experience; high school diploma or GED

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its clinical laboratory team on a contract basis with the potential to convert to a permanent role. This position plays a key part in ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and patient care support within a fast-paced lab environment.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, and operate centrifuge equipment
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update patient information and collect/store specimens per established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine, fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport, maintaining required temperature and container protocols to preserve specimen integrity
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Minimum 2 years of experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
