Software Placement Group is seeking a Phlebotomist for an on-site contract role in Colonial Heights, VA. The position offers Monday to Friday work with a 7:45am–4:30pm schedule and potential for permanent placement.

Responsibilities include blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and maintaining accurate records. Must have a state-certified phlebotomist credential and at least 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

• Minimum 6 months' venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital
• Experience with patients from young adults to geriatrics
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples and maintain data/records
• Collect and store specimens per established procedures
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight and butterfly needles
• Follow physicians' orders and match requisitions to specimens
• Package specimens for transport and maintain specimen integrity during transit
• Ensure 100% accuracy by verifying requisitions and labels
• Attend annual department trainings and respond to inquiries with lab results

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team on a contract basis, with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to ensuring accurate specimen collection and processing to support patient care across a diverse population.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data and decontamination activities
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy
• Package specimens for transport
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place in appropriate containers/tubes, label accurately, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and relay laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

Required qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required in some states
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• Experience working with patients ranging from young adults to geriatrics
• Hard stick experience
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• High School Diploma or GED
