Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, including heel sticks, using straight and butterfly needles.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Collect and store specimens according to procedures and required temperatures.
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes clearly to patients.
• Match requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify test requisitions for accuracy.
• Package and prepare specimens for transport, maintaining specimen integrity.
• Update patient information and record maintenance and decontamination data.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvement recommendations.

Overview

A healthcare services provider is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist for a contract assignment with potential for permanent placement. This role is essential to accurate specimen collection and smooth laboratory workflow, supporting patient care through precise and courteous blood draw procedures.

What you'll do

• Perform blood draws, including heel sticks, using straight and/or butterfly needles
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and required temperatures
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously to patients
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions against scripts for 100% accuracy
• Package and prepare specimens for transport, maintaining specimen integrity per protocol
• Update patient information and record maintenance and decontamination data
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
• Attend annual department trainings
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries
• Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvement recommendations

Required qualifications
