Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection, and specimen culture collection as part of laboratory procedures.
  • Promote professionalism and coordinate with colleagues to maintain a cooperative work environment.
  • Obtain specimens in accordance with laboratory guidelines and proper patient identification.
  • Communicate pertinent data about patient or specimen to care providers and ensure prompt transport.

  • Functions as a laboratory professional who performs specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instruction and specimen culture collection instruction
  • Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
  • Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.

  • Performs proper drug screen collection and processing as assigned.
  • Answers laboratory department phone calls.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately.
  • Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient centered manner.
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
Job Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Job Requirements:
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience
  • Certification from nationally recognized agency. Accepted agencies and certifications include, but are not limited to:
    • National Heathcareer Association – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA)
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology – Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP)
    • American Medical Technologists – Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT)
    • National Center for Competency Testing – National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT)
    • American Certification Agency – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA)
  • Experience working in the clinical setting
