Job summary

Northfield Hospital + Clinics is seeking a Phlebotomist to obtain and prepare specimens for analysis under supervision, and to perform waived screening tests across patient groups. Responsibilities include lab inventory, clerical tasks, and maintaining patient relations.

Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, enrollment in the NH+C RQI for BLS with 90 days to complete, English proficiency, CPI within six months, and preferred completion

Qualifications

Job Summary

The Phlebotomist position, underthe direct supervision of the Laboratory Technical Supervisor, obtains and prepares specimens for analysisand alsoperforms various waived screening tests on neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Assistswith lab supply inventory and various clerical duties. The Phlebotomistmaintainsa cooperative working relationship with patients, patients’families, medical staff, and interdepartmental and intradepartmental personnel.Reports to the Director of Laboratory Services.

Compensation

Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, educationand internal equity considerations. The hourly wage range for this position is$18.02—$25.43 (35).This range reflects the base wagefor this position.

Key Accountabilities

Verifies positive patient identification and test requisitions/orders for laboratory testing.

Obtains blood specimens using proper aseptic techniques including venipunctures andfingersticks.

Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection andmaintainsspecimen integrity.

Processes specimens to prepare samples for laboratory testing.

Performs/maintainscompetency for lab testing as directed by Laboratory Technical Supervisor.

Performs quality control and instrument checks for the applicable tests.

Assistswith laboratory supply inventory, including stocking and ordering as needed.

Performs clerical functions associated with the laboratory department.

Practices Universal Body Substance Precautions.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Must be enrolled inNH+C RQI program for BLS certification and complete the requirements within90 daysof enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).

Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently to ensure safe and effective communication in a healthcare environment.

Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy program

Previousexperience or education in a health-related field helpful

Good interpersonal communication skills

Ability to receive and carry out directions

Schedule

80 hours per two-week pay period (1.0 FTE)

Scheduled shifts include: 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Primary rotation consists of five consecutive 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. shifts one week, followed by five consecutive 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. shifts the next week

Every other weekend and rotating holiday schedule

Overtime may be required to meet staffing needs, including coverage for unexpected absences

Eligible for Shift Differential Pay in addition to base wage

Paid Time Off accrued starting on first paycheck
