Job description

Responsibilities

Performs blood collections from patients, ensuring safety and comfort, and provides direct patient care for all ages. Manages front office duties including dispatching phlebotomists, answering calls, ordering lab tests, checking the Order Monitor Log, receiving specimens, and delivering them to various lab sections. Responsible for receiving specimens into the Lab from the tube system and other processing duties as assigned.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Dispatches and tracks Support Assistants efficiently.
  • Performs routine venipuncture and other specimen collection techniques.
  • Collects specimens for blood bank transfusions.
  • Identifies patients accurately according to procedures.
  • Prepares specimens for analysis, following pre-analytical protocols.
  • Documents and follows up on specimen integrity issues, coordinating recollections if needed.
  • Utilizes hospital and laboratory information systems effectively.
  • Adheres to policies regarding system security and operation.
  • Maintains the specimen collection area and equipment.
  • Participates in phlebotomy education and training.
  • Follows infection control guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety and organizational policies.
  • Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with hospital and laboratory information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous healthcare experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Certification from a nationally accredited agency.
