Job summary

Southeast Medical Group is seeking a skilled phlebotomist to join our laboratory team. You’ll collect blood samples from patients of all ages, ensuring safety, accuracy, and compassionate care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, labeling and transporting specimens, entering data into EHR, maintaining a clean workspace, and supporting inventory and QA activities. Strong communication and adherence to HIPAA are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT from NHA, ASCP, or equivalent) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in phlebotomy, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, venipuncture techniques, and infection control practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle diverse patient populations compassionately.
  • Proficiency in using medical software and equipment; basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and lab technicians to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities such as proficiency testing and equipment calibration.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, including HIPAA and safety.

Southeast Medical Group is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our dynamic laboratory team. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner, ensuring accurate specimen processing and adherence to all regulatory standards. This role plays a critical part in supporting diagnostic testing and patient care while maintaining a commitment to workplace safety and infection control.   • Adhere to all Southeast Medical Group policies and procedures, including those related to patient privacy (HIPAA) and safety.
OSHA Compliance and Safety Requirements
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030): Complete annual training on exposure control plans, including the prevention of needlestick injuries and handling of potentially infectious materials. Use universal precautions at all times, such as treating all blood and body fluids as potentially infectious. Report any exposure incidents immediately for post-exposure evaluation and follow-up.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, gowns, masks, and eye protection, as provided by the employer. OSHA requires that PPE be readily accessible, properly fitted, and maintained at no cost to the employee. Training on PPE use and limitations will be provided.
  • Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200): Be familiar with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemicals used in the lab (e.g., disinfectants) and follow safe handling practices to minimize exposure to hazardous substances.
  • Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act: Utilize safety-engineered sharps devices (e.g., retractable needles) to reduce the risk of sharps injuries. Participate in evaluations of safer medical devices.
  • General Safety Duties: Maintain a hazard-free work environment by following ergonomic guidelines to prevent musculoskeletal disorders, reporting unsafe conditions, and participating in emergency preparedness drills. OSHA-mandated hepatitis B vaccinations will be offered free of charge.
  • Training and Recordkeeping: Complete initial and annual OSHA-required training sessions. Southeast Medical Group maintains records of training, vaccinations, and exposure incidents as per OSHA requirements.
