Job summary

Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, WY is seeking a phlebotomy/lab support professional to perform specimen collection, label specimens, and operate lab computer systems. Base pay starts at $17.30 per hour, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood cultures and specimen collections as ordered.
• Label all specimens and requisitions correctly.
• Utilize computer systems for patient registration, lab orders, and daily reports.
• Perform clerical duties for Lab Manager and pathologists as needed.
• Demonstrate proper use of vacutainers and syringes as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

Base salary starts at $17.30/hr.

• Demonstrate proper use of vacutainers and syringes depending on patient’s veins and placements of IV’s, and a lancet in areas in which capillary action is best.
• Performs blood cultures and glucose tolerance tests and other specimen collections as ordered.
• Properly labels all specimens and requisitions.
• Utilizes computer systems for patient registration, lab test orders, receiving specimens and daily reports.
• Performs clerical duties for the Lab Manager and pathologists as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

E X P E R I E N C E

• At least one (1) year experience preferred, unless currently certified by the ASCP or equivalent.

C R E D E N T I A L S

• Phlebotomist trainees will not exceed 24 months of employment without becoming ASCP certified after being eligible to take the certification exam.
• Excellent customer service skills, including but not limited to: a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy and a helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the telephone.
• Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers and the general public verbally and in writing.
• Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to establish priorities effectively.
• Possess exceptional problem solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision.
• Ability to learn new computer software programs.Ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
