Job summary

CommonSpirit Medical Group - Family Medicine - Chickamauga seeks a Lab Assistant to support diagnostic testing by collecting, preparing, and processing a variety of patient specimens with care and accuracy.

You will work with basic lab procedures, maintain strict attention to detail, and continually pursue professional development while providing reliable service to patients and clinicians in a team setting.

Qualifications

• High School graduate upon hire.
• Basic Life Support - CPR within 30 days.
• Preferred: Vocational phlebotomy training and CPT certification.

Responsibilities

• Assemble equipment per test requirements on the work tray.
• Verify or record patient identity.
• Draw and collect blood samples for testing; may prick finger.
• Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not done in-house.
• Maintain documentation per quality assurance programs (logs, records, checklists).
• Identify problems affecting test performance and notify supervisor.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Lab Assistant at CommonSpirit Medical Group - Family Medicine - Chickamauga, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries. Every day you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests. To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

• Assemble equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
• Verify or record identity of patient or donor.
• Draw and collect blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May prick finger to draw blood.
• Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.
• Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.
• Identify problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and take appropriate action, including supervisor notification.
