Job summary

CommonSpirit Medical Group - Family Medicine - Chickamauga is seeking a Lab Assistant to support diagnostic testing and specimen handling using our advanced technology. You will collect, prepare, and process blood, urine, tissue and other samples for tests, carefully following procedures and quality standards.

You will assemble needed equipment, verify patient identity, draw blood, document results, and coordinate specimen shipping to reference labs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support - CPR within 30 Days.
  • Preferred: graduate of accredited phlebotomy training program with 1 year related experience.
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble equipment (tourniquet, needles, containers, blood collection devices, gauze, alcohol) for specified tests.
  • Verify or record patient or donor identity.
  • Draw and collect blood samples; prepare specimens for lab analysis; may prick finger.
  • Send specimens to reference laboratories for tests not done in house.
  • Maintain documentation per quality assurance (logs, equipment records, checklists).
  • Identify problems affecting test performance or reporting and notify supervisor.

As a Lab Assistant at CommonSpirit Medical Group - Family Medicine - Chickamauga, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries.
Every day you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.
To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

  • Assemble equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
  • Verify or record identity of patient or donor.
  • Draw and collect blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May prick finger to draw blood.
  • Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.
  • Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.
  • Identify problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and take appropriate action, including supervisor notification.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 30 Days
Preferred

  • Vocational School Grad Graduate from accredited Phlebotomy training program and 1 year related experience
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician
