U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at Tomah VA Medical Center seeks a Medical Records Technician (ROI) to review and process PHI requests. You’ll provide direct customer service to Veterans or authorized third parties with signed written requests or valid authorizations.

The role requires knowledge of health information management, medical terminology, and privacy laws. Full-time position with on-site work at the Tomah facility and potential telework for ad hoc purposes.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship is required; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
• One year of creditable experience showing knowledge of medical terminology and general health records understanding.
• Six months of the required one year of creditable experience must provide KSAs for MRT (ROI) work.
• Education options include an associate or bachelor’s degree as described, or qualifying combinations of education and experience.

Responsabilités

• Apply, interpret, and analyze laws and regulations related to health information disclosure.
• Educate requestors on submission requirements for health information releases.
• Receive and validate authorization forms and requests and prioritize per policy.
• Process and release health information to authorized first- and third-party requestors.
• Maintain the accounting of disclosures for all records released.
• Enter requests into ROI software and manage related transactions and deposits.
