Job summary

CSL in the United States is seeking a plasma collection technician to perform venipuncture and monitor the pheresis process, following SOPs and FDA guidelines. You will ensure donor safety, document data, and respond to donor needs.

The role may involve educating donors, troubleshooting equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment. Requirements include a high school diploma and 12 months in a medical setting; California centers may require CPT I or RN license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• For Centers located in CA: CPT I certification or active RN license required.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for efficient collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture and monitoring the pheresis process according to SOPs.
• Perform all aspects of pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor setup, monitoring and disconnect.
• Venipuncture on donors to begin pheresis process in compliance with FDA guidelines.
• Evaluate donor vein performance; correct issues to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety.
• Educate new donors on use of plasma-derived products and answer donor questions professionally.
• Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist or notify staff as needed.
• Use PDA to record incidents during pheresis, including alarms and adverse events.
• Perform calibrations and verify maintenance; respond to complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and document incidents; replace equipment as needed.
• Monitor donor flow to ensure continuous turnover; alert supervisor of flow issues.
• Collect arm samples or whole blood for testing as required.
• Record donor data in electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
• Understand policies for hyperimmune programs when applicable.
• Maintain clean, efficient work environment and ensure supplies; follow HSE/OSHA policies.
• Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.
• May be cross-trained in other areas; bilingual skills may be required.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
