Job summary

Procter & Gamble invites a PhD Summer Intern to contribute to a project on functional materials within Corporate Functions R&D. You will culture bacteria, perform chemical modifications, and evaluate properties of biopolymers for consumer product applications.

The 12-week internship runs May/June–August 2027, in Mason Business Innovation Center, five days a week in office. PhD candidates with microbiology/chemistry background are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Education: Working towards a PhD in microbiology, chemical biology, polymer/material chemistry.
• Microbiological Laboratory Proficiency: aseptic technique, bacterial culturing, basic microbiological assays, lab safety.

Responsibilities

• Production of Biopolymers with pre-defined, integrated functionality through in-situ modification during bacterial fermentation.
• Expand application space for biopolymers by testing tailored properties and new functionalities.
• Make recommendations on antimicrobial efficacy and other applications for P&G.
