Qualifications
- Working towards a PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or related field.
- Ability to work safely and independently with prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
- Excellent microbiology and synthetic biology skills (sterile technique, microbial cultivation, familiarity with common molecular biology tools).
- Available to work a 12-week internship from May/early June to August in the summer of 2027, working daily in office at Mason Business and Innovation Center.
Responsibilities
- Mine literature for genetic pathways and biosensors for chemical classes of interest.
- Leverage genetic engineering tools and analytical techniques to enable, improve, and quantify biomolecule production and/or biosensor function.
- Independently develop, execute, and analyze experiments to characterize and optimize engineered microbial systems.
- Stretch goals include automation of experiments to deliver outputs more quickly and reliably.
