Job summary

Retro Biosciences invites applications for a PhD fellow in its Microglia Therapeutics program. The accelerated 3-year Retro PhD combines industry experience with rigorous scientific training, preparing you for a scientist role in a fast-paced startup, leveraging Retro’s resources and mentorship.

You will culture mammalian cells, differentiate iPSCs to brain cell-types, and contribute to assay development, with opportunities to publish and defend your thesis as part of the program.

Qualifications

• MS in Biology or related field, European-style PhD structure.
• Experience with standard tissue culture and tissue processing techniques.
• Proven ability to drive projects to completion independently and in a team.
• Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
• A passion for research on aging and age-related diseases.

Responsibilities

• Perform mammalian cell culture and iPSC differentiation to neural cell-types including microglia.
• Differentiate and optimize 2D and 3D (organoids) culture protocols.
• Perform cell-based and molecular assays to characterize cells and prove function.
• Plan and execute wet lab and/or computational experiments.
• Publish and present results at relevant conferences.
• Write a thesis and conduct formal oral thesis defense before your thesis committee.
• Meet growth milestones to become an independent scientist.
