Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a 2026 PhD Graduate in Autonomous Systems Seeker and Sensor Engineer to join our team in advancing next generation seekers and sensors. You will join the Strike Guidance, Navigation, Controls (GNC) and Seekers group to develop and prototype advanced seekers and sensors, collaborate with experts, and pursue educational opportunities.

A PhD in EE, Physics, or Mathematics with interest in RF/EO/IR and related fields is highly

Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
  • Passionate about creative problem solving and applying skills to next-generation weapons and autonomous systems.
  • Academic background in listed technical areas.
  • Research experience or internships in RF, EO/IR or related fields.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret security clearance by start date with U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct seeker and sensor research, design, modeling, simulation and analysis.
  • Develop ways to simulate and predict performance in complex environments.
  • Lab test seeker and sensor hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with seeker and sensor subject matter experts and mentors.
  • Interact with government sponsors and multi-disciplinary teams in studies for early phase vehicle development.
  • Pursue educational opportunities such as technical short courses and graduate degree programs.
