Job summary

The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a PhD physicist, mathematician or engineer to develop and assess algorithms for infrared and optical sensor systems used in land, air and sea defense. You will derive requirements, run trade studies, and analyze performance while collaborating with sponsors and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • PhD by start date in a relevant field such as EE, math, physics or CS.
  • Experience simulating or analyzing IR/visible signals, environments or sensors.
  • Proficient in MATLAB, C++, or Python.
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% as needed.
  • U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Derive requirements, perform trade studies, and analyze sensor system performance.
  • Develop, implement, test, and verify high-fidelity physics-based simulations.
  • Collaborate with sponsors, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams on air and missile defense.
