Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks newly graduating PhD engineers, mathematicians, physicists, and scientists to join the Strike Guidance, Navigation, Controls (GNC), and Seekers group in Laurel, MD. You will engage in cutting-edge seeker and sensor research, modeling, simulation, and analysis for autonomous systems and weapons, under mentorship from subject matter experts.

Roles involve lab testing, collaboration with government sponsors, and ongoing education

Qualifications

  • Candidates have PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
  • Research experience and internships in RF, EO/IR or related fields.
  • Willingness to obtain Interim Secret and ultimately Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct seeker and sensor research, design, modeling, simulation and analysis for next-gen autonomous systems and weapons.
  • Develop methods to simulate and predict seeker/sensor performance in complex environments.
  • Lab test seeker and sensor hardware and software to assess capabilities and limitations.
  • Collaborate with SME mentors and government sponsors across multidisciplinary studies.
  • Engage with engineers and platform designers in optimization studies for early vehicle development.
  • Pursue continuing education through courses and degree programs.
