Job summary

Figma is seeking a PhD Data Science Intern to partner across product, engineering, design, marketing, sales, and operations. You will own a data science project end-to-end—from framing the question to translating findings into actionable insights that influence product strategy and data practices.

The role emphasizes rigorous research training, familiarity with causal inference or ML, and ability to communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a PhD in Data Science, Statistics, CS, HCI, Economics, OR, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related field with independent research progress.
• Experience with statistics, experimentation, ML, causal inference, econometrics, optimization, or AI/LLMs.
• Proficiency in Python or R and SQL for analysis and modeling.

Responsibilities

• Define and frame data science problems from ambiguous questions for cross-functional teams.
• Analyze user, product, or business data to uncover insights and actions.
• Design and evaluate experiments, models, and analytical frameworks.
• Communicate assumptions and tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
• Own internship project end-to-end with potential for publication.
