Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician Specialist to assist pharmacists in preparing medications for inpatient and outpatient services. The role includes leading specialized activities such as patient medication history, medication assistance, and IV chemotherapy preparation, while ensuring compliance with USP guidelines and state boards.

The position requires at least 2 years of pharmacy experience, ExCPT or PTCB certification, state licensure, and the ability to train others.

Qualifications

• 2 years previous experience working in Retail, Ambulatory, Outpatient, Hospital, Acute Care, or Home Infusion pharmacy (required)
• ExCPT Certification Exam or PTCB Certification (required)
• Registration with State Board of Pharmacy (required)
• Valid state driver's license (required)
• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• ASHP/ACPE tech training program preferred or equivalent training (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacist in preparation of medications for inpatient and/or outpatient services
• Accept new prescription orders from prescribers or agents
• Perform sterile and/or non-sterile compounding per USP guidelines
• Interview patients to obtain home medication list and enter into EHR
• Enroll patients in medication assistance programs to reduce costs
• Assist in IV chemotherapy preparation and related sterile practices
• Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and aseptic policies
• Assist in surgery-related medication handling and narcotic reconciliation
• Support research medication preparation and record-keeping
• Improve central pharmacy automation and staff training
• Receive and distribute inventory and ensure proper storage and billing
• Oversee automated dispensing systems and carts
• Educate and precept new technicians and students
• Provide support to inpatient and outpatient staff with medication issues
• Lead or participate in performance improvement activities
