Job summary

HCA HealthONE Aurora is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Specialist to support pharmaceutical preparation and distribution under a pharmacist's supervision. Responsibilities include non-sterile compounding, stocking automated cabinets, unit dose prep, delivering medications, and ensuring accurate storage and billing.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: previous pharmacy technician experience preferred
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: As defined in competencies; ability to work accurately with attention to detail. Possesses communication, teamwork, customer service, computer, problem solving and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Non-sterile compounding, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, unit dose drug preparation, delivering medications to patient care areas, checking medication storage areas for outdates, and billing.
  • Work in specialty areas of pharmacy (IV room, controlled substance distribution and monitoring, automation, informatics, medication reconciliation).
  • Serve as lead or SME in designated specialty area; assist with policies, committees, training, and oversee projects.

Job Summary And Qualifications

Pharmacy Technician Specialist:

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician Specialist performs functions related to pharmaceutical preparation and distribution. These tasks may include but are not limited to non-sterile compounding, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, unit dose drug preparation, delivering medications to patient care areas, checking medication storage areas for outdates, and billing.

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist primarily works in one or more specialty areas of pharmacy. Examples: IV room, controlled substance distribution and monitoring, automation, informatics, medication reconciliation.

Additionally, the Specialist serves as a lead or subject matter expert in their designated specialty area. They may assist with writing policies, leading committees, implementing changes and improvements in their area of specialty, serving as a staff educator or trainer, oversee projects for the department, and other duties as assigned.

  • Licensure/Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) with Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Pharmacy Technician Certificate, or Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Provisional Pharmacy Technician Certificate

If initially hired with a Colorado Board of Pharmacy (DORA) issued Provisional Pharmacy Technician Certificate, must achieve Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or national equivalent) within 12 months of hire.

  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: As defined in competencies; ability to work accurately with attention to detail. Possesses communication, teamwork, customer service, computer, problem solving and organizational skills.
