Job description

Overview

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients at Carle Foundation Hospital, Kirby and Hoopeston Hospitals, and other Carle Enterprise locations that use medications. Responsibilities include technical tasks such as filing, compounding, reconstitution, labeling, and delivery.

Qualifications
  • Certifications: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (NHA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (PTCB) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)

Responsibilities
  1. Accurately and safely prepare and label chemotherapy drugs for administration. (PRN Technicians are not required to perform this task)
  2. Accurately fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists.
  3. Assist in developing and maintaining training materials as needed.
  4. Assist in special projects as assigned by the Director, excluding clinical decision-making tasks.
  5. Enter and process new prescriptions and refills.
  6. Fill medication orders accurately and promptly, including doses, stock replacement, unit doses, outpatient, and take-home prescriptions.
  7. Perform billing functions, including patient charging, nursing unit charges, and controlled substance charging, manually or via barcode scanner.
  8. Perform miscellaneous non-sterile compounding.
  9. Conduct monthly inspections of nursing units and pharmacy for expired or unusable drugs, ensuring proper storage and inventory.
  10. Prepare IV products using aseptic techniques with proper labeling. (PRN Technicians are not required to perform this task)
  11. Prepare parenteral nutrition solutions and batch IV products as needed. (PRN Technicians are not required to perform this task)
  12. Deliver enteral nutritional supplements, maintain records, and handle billing.
  13. Provide services to Operating Room staff from the OR medication room.
  14. Restock and replace trays and kits used throughout the facility.

Compensation and Benefits
