Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist licensed pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications across hospital departments. You will accurately label medications, manage hazardous drugs and controlled substances, and support daily procurement and inventory controls.

Responsibilities include documenting removal/waste of medications, assisting with nonsterile compounding per USP standards and IV admixtures, and ensuring adherence to storage policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed pharmacist in preparation and distribution of medications.
• Accurately select, prepare, and label medications for patients including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assist with medication distribution tasks.
• Screen phone calls and route as needed using proper etiquette.
• Assist in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking.
• Complete documentation for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances where applicable.
• Perform nonsterile compounding following USP standards; sterile IV admixture as applicable.
• Inspect storage areas for adherence to storage policies.
• Complete medication admission histories and data entry for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation.
• May participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in training pharmacy technicians and extenders.
• Abide by organizational policies and regulatory standards; support area leaders.
