Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support licensed pharmacists in preparation and distribution of medications across multiple departments. The role involves selecting, labeling, and handling hazardous drugs and controlled substances, assisting with procurement, inventory and adherence to storage policies.

The technician will document medication histories, assist with third-party billing, train technicians, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain CPhT or ExCPT within 18 months from start date.
• Registration or licensure with state board of pharmacy per state requirements.
• No work experience required; CPhT and IV experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
• Accurately select, prepare, and label medications including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assist with medication distribution tasks and inventory control.
• Screen calls and route using proper telephone and voicemail etiquette.
• Assist in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking.
• Complete documentation required for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances where applicable.
• Perform nonsterile compounding following USP standards where applicable.
• Perform sterile IV admixture using aseptic technique where applicable.
• Inspect medication storage areas for adherence to policies.
• Document medication admission histories and data entry for record keeping and insurance verification.
• Seek additional duties when work is done and accept other duties as assigned.
• May participate in quality improvement initiatives.
