Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to provide distributive pharmacy services, assist the pharmacist, and process medication orders in outpatient and inpatient settings. You will also maintain inventory and support patient interactions.

Required: high school diploma or GED, Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT, and PA State Board registration before start. Compliance with HIPAA, privacy policies, and business conduct is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT (NHA) required.
• Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or 1 year equivalent experience.
• Registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Technician with PA State Board before start date (upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Processes medication orders including computer order entry, medication preparation and assembles all items prior to pharmacist final check.
• Maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures, including inspection of assigned areas and use of pharmacy computer systems.
• Provides customer service by taking patient’s prescriptions and documenting all required information, handles all customer interactions in a courteous and efficient manner, and releases medications required by policy/procedure.
• Validates Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance drug coverage and ensures adjudication is complete addressing any error messages, plus handles cash, prepares deposits and accounting reports.
• Compounds, stocks, repackages and batches from bulk medications; prepares routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals including compounding, preparation and labeling of IV admixture including antibiotics, solutions, irrigations, narcotics, parenteral nutrition and chemotherapy.
• Safe operation of Central Fill Pharmacy equipment and material handling equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.
