Job summary

Duke Health, based in Durham, NC, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II to join Duke Specialty Pharmacy at Duke University Hospital. The role supports prescription processing, medication preparation, distribution, and patient safety under supervision.

You will work with the clinical pharmacist and broader team to ensure accurate dispensing, regulatory compliance, and timely service, with opportunities for weekend coverage and professional growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus accredited pharmacy technician training.
• Acceptance into pharmacy school as an alternative.
• High school diploma with 1 year pharmacy/health care experience as alternative.
• 2+ years of Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
• North Carolina registration within 180 days for Tech I.
• PTCB or ExCPT certification for Tech II.

Responsibilities

• Follow workflow procedures including prescription processing, medication preparation and distribution.
• Restock automatic dispensing cabinets and anesthesia workstations.
• Answer and screen telephone calls; direct calls to appropriate personnel.
• Handle medications per department, regulatory and legal requirements.
• Collaborate with pharmacy team, insurers and customers to resolve issues.
• Assist with medication safety and patient follow-up with the clinical pharmacist.
• Operate specialty machinery and pharmacy systems; troubleshoot as needed.
• Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.
• Complete safety and quality activities per procedures.
• Prepare IV solutions or non-sterile medications at select locations.
• Train new employees and students in job-specific functions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
