Job summary

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY, is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I to assist pharmacists in preparing and labeling medications for cancer treatment and patient care.

You will enter prescriptions into pharmacy systems, maintain inventory, and support safety and accuracy under supervision; NYS registration and national certification are required.

Qualifications

  • Certification as Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA required.
  • New York State Pharmacy Technician registration required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and filling prescription medications.
  • Enter prescription information accurately into pharmacy systems.
  • Package and label medications for patient use.
  • Support preparation of hazardous and non-hazardous medications under supervision.
  • Help maintain medication inventory, stocked and monitored.
  • Participate in quality assurance to ensure patient safety and accuracy.
  • Follow established pharmacy procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.

About the Role

As a Pharmacy Technician, you'll play an important role in helping patients receive the medications they need safely, accurately, and on time. Working alongside licensed pharmacists, you'll support the preparation, packaging, labeling, and management of medications used in cancer treatment and patient care.

Starting Pay: $20.44/hour

What You'll Do
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and filling prescription medications
  • Enter prescription information accurately into pharmacy systems
  • Package and label medications for patient use
  • Support the preparation of both hazardous and non-hazardous medications under pharmacist supervision
  • Help maintain medication inventory, including stocking and monitoring supplies
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to help ensure patient safety and accuracy
  • Follow established pharmacy procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety standards
  • Work closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to support outstanding patient care

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Certification Requirement

  • 1. National Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or ExCPT from National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required.
  • 2. Registered Pharmacy Technician with NYS Office of the Professions, State Education Department.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or High School Equivalency diploma.

NOTE:

  • 1. Incumbents must maintain the required New York State registration and national certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) as a condition of continued employment.
  • 2. Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
