Job summary

UPMC Community Pharmacy is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to join our team in Harrisburg. The role involves assisting with the preparation and delivery of medications for patients in a fast-paced hospital setting, with rotating daylight and evening shifts.

You will work under supervision to ensure accuracy and safety in dispensing. Completion of a pharmacy tech program or equivalent, plus six months of experience, is required.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program.
• Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience.
• Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System.

Responsibilities

• Fill medication orders with correct labeling, counting and stocking; initial and date products.
• Prepare oral and injectable medications including IV admixtures and TPN for patients.
• Use proper aseptic technique in preparation.
• Work in sterile product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs using aseptic technique.
• Distribute medications, manage medication cassettes and controlled substances per policy and regulations.
• Retrieve discontinued medications and return them to the appropriate area.
• Develop and maintain positive service relationships during medication distribution.
• Assist in procurement, storage, preparation and distribution of investigational drugs.
• Provide information to staff, patients and visitors via phone, in person, or in writing.
• Refer drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
• Ensure medications are stored securely per regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment.
• Practice hand hygiene in pharmacy and units.
• Use computer systems to process and maintain patient information and records.
• Maintain pertinent documentation and logs (eye wash, refrigerator logs, perpetual inventory, etc.).
• Finalize sales using cash register and follow cash handling policies.
• Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, PBM contracting and related regulations.
• Maintain patient information and records.
• Maintain the pharmacy computer system as required.
• Procure and maintain daily inventory levels in stock rooms and dispensing machines.
• Maintain automated med stations and crash carts.
• Assist in training pharmacy personnel and students.
• Demonstrate accuracy in maintaining controlled substance records and distribution.
• Audit and maintain controlled substance records.
• Store and dispense drugs in compliance with regulations.
• Participate in quality improvement activities.
