Job description

This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500.

Join Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute and become part of one of the world’s most respected healthcare organizations. We are expanding with a new, one-million-square-foot, 15-floor, state-of-the-art facility on Cleveland Clinic Main Campus designed to elevate care for complex neurological conditions — including spine injuries, epileptic seizures, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis and stroke.

As a Pharmacy Technician – Neurology at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, you will support one of the highest-volume inpatient pharmacies, serving diverse service lines including general inpatient care, sterile products, the operating room, pediatrics, and mainly the growing neurology specialty. In this role, you will collaborate closely with pharmacists, pharmacy leadership, fellow technicians, and the broader patient care team, including physicians, nurses, and support staff. You will help ensure safe and timely medication distribution through accurate preparation, delivery, inventory management, and use of systems such as EPIC, Pyxis, carousel, and MAR messaging. Caregivers in this role work days, evenings, or nights and receive training in controlled substances, sterile and non-sterile compounding, oncology support, triage, and phone-based coordination, making this a dynamic opportunity to build advanced inpatient pharmacy skills.

A caregiver in this position works variable shifts, including 6:45am–3:15pm or 2:00pm–10:30pm, with three weeks of day shifts and one week of second shift or straight seconds, and works every third weekend.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
  • In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
  • Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Six months of inpatient hospital and IV Sterile Compounding experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
