Job summary

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Downtown Campus Department of Pharmacy seeks a Pharmacy Technician, certified or trainee, to support dispensing activities under pharmacist supervision. Responsibilities include inventory management, securing medications, and assisting with sterile compounding in the clean room.

Qualified candidates must be registered with the Pharmacy Board and either hold national certification or be on track to obtain it within one year.

Qualifications

• Registered with the Pharmacy Board at time of hire.
• PTCB or NHA national certification required; continued education.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience or completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
• Must become certified within one year (Trainee track).
• Ability to calculate ratios & proportions for pharmaceutical needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform inventory maintenance activities.
• Review and manage medication inventory for expirations.
• Maintain medication inventory levels according to par levels.
• Process inpatient Epic In-Baskets including labeling and dosing.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and return unused meds.
• Ensure medication security in all patient care units and rooms.
• Maintain controlled substances inventory and related records.
• Prepare sterile and non-sterile products in aseptic environment.
