Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a non-certified Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists with prescription processing, insurance billing, inventory, and customer service while pursuing national certification. You will interact with customers, gather patient information, and assist in preparing medications in a fast-paced retail pharmacy.

The role emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and adherence to HIPAA, with vaccination responsibilities where allowed by law.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Working toward licensed technician certification through a certified national program required.
• Previous experience as a pharmacy clerk preferred.
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines, as required by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and learning their names.
• Handle customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise.
• Accept new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests.
• Contact doctors' offices to take or request refill prescriptions as needed.
• Gather and maintain accurate patient information required to prepare prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing.
• Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed.
• Submit insurance claims and assist with third‑party billing and troubleshooting.
• File prescriptions after dispensing and report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
• Order, check in, stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices as necessary.
• Perform cash transactions accurately.
• Administer vaccines as allowed by law, with required certification where applicable.
• Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area.
• Maintain confidentiality of customers' private medical information per HIPAA.
• Adhere to all statutes and regulations pertaining to a pharmacy technician.
• Work with co-workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects.
